Andrew Garfield has revealed that he often thinks about stepping away from Hollywood and living a quieter life away from the spotlight.
The actor shared his thoughts during a recent interview after spending nearly a full year filming back-to-back projects. Garfield said the busy schedule has made him think more about the kind of life he wants outside the entertainment industry.
Garfield said he has worked for almost 12 straight months without much of a break. He explained that while he understands promoting new films is part of the job, he would rather let audiences watch his work without constant public attention.
The 43-year-old actor said his ideal life would be much simpler. He said he would enjoy spending time in the countryside in Somerset, making things with wood and watching birds instead of being in the public eye.
Garfield has several major projects arriving over the coming months. His recent work includes The Magic Faraway Tree, where he stars alongside Claire Foy, the action period drama The Uprising, and Artificial, a film directed by Luca Guadagnino about OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman.
The actor also spoke about how his goals have changed over time. Garfield said his dreams are no longer focused on career achievements. Instead, he wants a better quality of life and stronger relationships with family, friends, and himself.
He said his priorities have become more personal and philosophical than professional. Garfield explained that finding balance matters more to him now than chasing success.
This is not the first time Garfield has stepped away from acting. In 2022, after appearing in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, tick, tick… BOOM!, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, he announced he was taking a break from his career.
At the time, Garfield said he needed time to recalibrate and decide what he wanted to do next. He also said he wanted to spend some time living an ordinary life after a demanding awards season.
His acting break lasted for about two years following the release of Under the Banner of Heaven in 2022.
Garfield returned to the screen in late 2024 as the lead in the romantic drama We Live in Time. Since then, he has taken on several new film projects that have kept him busy throughout the past year.
Although Garfield continues to work on high-profile films, his latest comments suggest he is still looking for a healthier balance between his career and his personal life.
For now, the actor remains focused on completing and promoting his upcoming projects while keeping open the possibility of spending more time away from Hollywood in the future.
