England fast bowler Brydon Carse is under investigation by the England and Wales Cricket Board after footage showed him in police handcuffs outside a bar in Derby. The incident happened late on Saturday after Durham completed a three-day win over Derbyshire in the County Championship.
Durham are leading Division Two and had just finished a strong performance against Derbyshire. Carse was seen outside a bar after the match. England team-mates Matthew Potts and Ben Stokes also appear briefly in the footage.
The ECB has confirmed that it is investigating the incident. The board said it was aware of reports about what happened in Derby and would provide more information when possible. Reports also said Carse was released without charge.
The incident adds to a growing list of off-field issues involving England players. It comes only five days after returning England captain Joe Root spoke about the need for players to be good role models and good people.
England’s winter tour of Australia was also affected by several incidents away from cricket. One of the most widely discussed cases was a drinking break in Noosa during the Ashes series.

Carse has been an important player for England in recent years. He was England’s leading wicket-taker during the Ashes series in Australia and played a key role with his pace and aggressive bowling.
An injury has kept Carse out for much of the current season. He was included in England’s large squad for the first Test against Pakistan at Headingley but was released to play for Durham.
