Lionel Messi reached another major milestone on September 17, scoring his 100th goal for Inter Miami as the club defeated Mexico’s Cruz Azul 2-0 to win the Campeones Cup in Florida. The result gave Miami another trophy and added a new mark to Messi’s already long list of career records.

Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute at Nu Stadium. The Argentine received the ball in a dangerous area and found the net to reach 100 goals for Inter Miami. It was a notable moment for the 39-year-old forward, who joined the Major League Soccer club in 2023 after his time with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

The goal also showed that Messi remains a major part of Miami’s success. He has now scored 100 goals in 115 appearances for the club. During his time in the United States, he has helped Inter Miami win four trophies, adding a new chapter to a career that already includes major titles in Europe and South America.

Inter Miami secured the win when Casemiro scored late in the match. The former Real Madrid and Brazil midfielder added the second goal and helped Miami protect its lead until the final whistle.

The Campeones Cup brings together the champions of Major League Soccer and Mexico’s top domestic competition. Miami entered the match as the MLS Cup holder, while Cruz Azul represented Mexico after winning the country’s Campeon de Campeones title.

For Miami, the victory was another sign of the club’s rapid rise since Messi arrived. His move to the United States changed the attention around the team and helped bring more international focus to Major League Soccer.

Messi’s latest achievement also comes at an important point in his international career. Earlier this month, he announced his retirement from Argentina duty after a long career with the national team. He has since been included in Argentina’s squad for a friendly against Benin on October 6 in Buenos Aires, which has been announced as a possible farewell appearance. Messi has not yet publicly confirmed whether he will take part.

With Argentina, Messi won the 2022 World Cup and two Copa America titles. He is also the country’s record scorer, with 125 international goals. His possible final appearance would give Argentine fans another chance to see the captain in the national shirt after two decades of international football.

For now, however, Messi’s focus remains with Inter Miami. His 100th club goal came in a final and helped deliver another trophy. The achievement adds to his growing record in Major League Soccer and shows why his presence continues to draw global attention.

The victory over Cruz Azul was also important for Miami beyond Messi’s personal milestone. The club now has another major title to celebrate, while Messi has another trophy connected to his name.

At 39, Messi continues to produce decisive moments. His 100th Inter Miami goal was one of them, and it arrived on a night when the club had another championship to win.

The latest trophy gives Miami more success to build on, while Messi’s century of goals provides another historic number for one of football’s most decorated players.
