    DOD linguist charged for transmitting sensitive information to Hezbollah

    A linguist working for the Defense Department was accused of passing “exceptionally delicate data” to an outside national associated with the Iranian-upheld Hezbollah dread gathering.

    Mariam Taha Thompson is accused of ordering characterized U.S. government data “in regards to dynamic human resources, including their actual names” and passing it to Hezbollah agents, the Department of Justice declared on Wednesday.

    “By bargaining the characters of these human resources, Thompson set the lives of the human resources and U.S. military staff in grave peril,” the Justice Department said in an announcement on Thompson’s case.

    “While in a combat area, the litigant purportedly gave delicate national resistance data, including the names of people pushing the United States, to a Lebanese national found abroad,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers said in an announcement. “Assuming genuine, this direct is a disrespect, particularly for somebody filling in as a contractual worker with the United States military. This disloyalty of nation and associates will be rebuffed.”

    “The lead claimed right now a grave danger to national security, set lives in danger, and speaks to a treachery of our military,” U.S. Lawyer for the District of Columbia Timothy J. Shea said in an announcement. “The charges we’ve documented today should fill in as a notice to any individual who might consider revealing grouped national guard data to a psychological oppressor association.”

    FBI operators captured Thompson in late February at an abroad U.S. military office, where she was utilized as an etymologist holding top mystery exceptional status. An inquiry of Thompson’s living space uncovered Arabic-language reports containing characterized U.S. materials.

    “Beginning approximately December 30, 2019,” the Justice Department stated, “review logs show a striking movement in Thompson’s system action on United States Department of Defense arranged frameworks, including rehashed access to characterized data she had no compelling reason to get to.”

    The office said that for about a month and a half after that “prominent move” started, Thompson “got to many records concerning human knowledge sources, including genuine names, individual recognizable proof information, foundation data, and photos of the human resources, just as operational links specifying data the benefits gave to the United States government.” She transmitted the information to a Lebanese individual attached to Hezbollah “in whom she had a sentimental intrigue.”

    Thompson’s first appearance before a U.S. justice judge is planned for Wednesday evening. The secret activities charge could bring a greatest punishment of a lifelong incarceration in jail.
