London Fashion Week Opens With Big Returns
London Fashion Week Opens With Big Returns

London Fashion Week has opened its doors, marking the start of a packed month of shows across the world’s top style capitals. This season’s event, running through several days, brings a mix of famous names, fresh designers, and a few surprise homecomings that have style fans excited.

The biggest talking point this season is the return of Alexander McQueen to its home city. Designer Sean McGirr will present the label’s collection in London for the first time since the brand began showing in Paris more than two decades ago. Industry watchers say the move signals renewed pride in British design talent on the world stage.

Another standout addition comes from Mulberry, the leather goods house known for its classic handbags. New creative director Christopher Kane is set to unveil his first collection for the brand, putting British craftsmanship back in the spotlight. Kane, known for bold and playful design in his earlier solo label, is expected to bring fresh energy to the storied house.

High street fashion is also getting a moment on the official schedule. British retailer Marks & Spencer will stage its first ever London Fashion Week show, timed to celebrate a century in the fashion business. The brand plans a “see now, buy now” format, letting shoppers purchase looks from the runway right away, rather than waiting months for pieces to reach stores.

Beyond the headline shows, London remains known as the boldest of the big four fashion cities, prized for taking risks that Paris and Milan often avoid. Programs built to support new designers continue to play a central role this season, giving emerging talent a real platform alongside the big names.

Street style has become just as big a draw as the runway itself in recent years. Crowds gather outside venues each day to see how editors, buyers, and influencers style their own outfits between shows. This mix of runway and real life has helped London build a reputation as the most creative stop on the fashion calendar.

Once London wraps up, the fashion world moves on to Milan, where shows begin later this month with a headline event blending fashion and culture. Paris will close out the season in early October, hosting the most established houses in the industry.

For shoppers, this fashion month offers an early look at what will fill store shelves next spring and summer. Designers are expected to lean into a mix of tailored classics and playful new shapes, continuing a shift away from ultra-minimal looks that dominated recent seasons.

Beyond the clothes, fashion week season has become a broader lifestyle event. Hotels, restaurants, and parties around each host city see a surge in demand as buyers and press travel between cities. For many in the industry, the month is as much about networking and discovery as it is about the clothes on the runway.

As the shows continue this week, all eyes remain on how London’s newest chapter unfolds, and whether its bold spirit continues to set the tone for the global fashion industry heading into next year.
